Man Utd Head Coach Amorim Confesses He Cannot Escape Underwhelming Performance

Man Utd coach under pressure during recent game

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim endures the stress during the 3-1 defeat at Brentford

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim confesses he is unable to hide from his disappointing statistics and believes it is understandable that club former stars are questioning him.

Earlier this week, the club's all-time goalscorer Wayne Rooney mentioned during his show that "the spirit has gone" from his old team.

Amorim has achieved just 18 victories from his 49 games in control, featuring nine out of thirty-three in the Premier League, where he has still to secure back-to-back successive victories.

Although high-level Old Trafford insiders are insistent that Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains behind the manager, an inability to beat newly promoted Sunderland on the weekend will ignite renewed speculation about his role heading into another two-week pause in domestic football.

"It is understandable," commented the Portuguese coach, when questioned about the former striker's remarks. "One can't run away from the outcomes."

"Furthermore you have the baggage from last season, [although] that period for me is in the past."

Supporter Reaction and Current Circumstances

United's fans stayed behind their manager following last season's dismal fare, when they finished 15th in the league - their worst finish since the 1973/74 relegation season - and were defeated in the European showpiece, in the hope that this season would be considerably better.

The manager told fans the position would get better because he had additional opportunity to train with his players without the weekly commitment of European competition.

However is not been how the first six matches have materialised as Manchester United have endured three defeats already and sit fourteenth in the table.

Manager's Reaction to Concerns

When questioned what promises he could give fans that the position will get better, the manager stated: "This is not the moment to speak, it is the moment to prove."

"I review the fixtures this season and, for me, they are entirely distinct, but I have little to add at present."

  • Manchester United presently occupy 14th place in the top flight
  • Amorim has secured just 18 of his forty-nine matches in charge
  • The former striker recently questioned the team's present situation
  • The upcoming fixture against their opponents is critical for Amorim's position
